Kanoa Igarashi 7/19/08

Kanoa is 10 years old, his home break is HB. He is sponsored by O'Neill, Spy, HB Surf & Sport, Ocean Earth, Nixon, Alva Skate, Toyota of HB, and Java Point. That is impressive. Kanoa is a quick study, he started surfing when he was 3 years old. He is smart, nice, and is constantly improving his game. He shows potential in the competitive surfing. He has a quiver of tricks and the ability to throw down. He is truly a product of the HB surf scene. You will definitely see this kid climbing the ranks. It takes a village to produce a surfer like this. Through support from sponsors and positive reinforcement in and out of the water. His father plays a big part in providing him plenty of water time. Kanoa says his father is his biggest inspiration. Only time will tell the rest of the story. If he remains focused and disciplined I see a positive ending to the story. For any young surfer coming up now they have to maintain a game plan and set their goals for the pinnacle of competitive surfing is the WCT a world championship. Kelly Slater has set the bar so high it has become a big black cloud lingering over all competitive surfers. Kelly Slater is a enigma and it looks now that a 9nth world championship is lingering. It must be frustrating for groms to realize to be top of there game they must overcome that big black cloud and focus on one contest at a time. If any one can touch Kelly Slaters dynasty it would be a super grom like Kanoa who started surfing at age of 3.
